Product Review: Betty Crocker Gluten-Free Brownies

036

The other day I happened upon 3 of the 4 gluten-free Betty Crocker mixes.  Okay, so I didn’t “happen upon” them.  I have been actively seeking them out since I heard they were coming out!  LOL!  I made & reviewed the Chocolate Chip Cookies the other day and we love them!  I needed a dessert for Father’s Day dinner, so what better dessert to make than the Betty Crocker Gluten-free Brownies?  I have to say that I have a new favorite person and her name is Betty Crocker!  These brownies were A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!  They were super simple to make and bake.  Before making these, my favorite gluten-free brownie mixes were made by 1, 2, 3 Gluten-Free (super expensive ~ $10.00/mix) and Pamela’s (about half the price of the 1, 2, 3 Gluten-Free mix and $1.00 or so more than the Betty Crocker mix).  I served these brownies to 7 people total and every single one of them raved about them.  Comments like “You can’t even tell these are GF” and “These are better than regular brownies!” were flying around the room.  They were rich, chocolaty, fudgy and all the marvelous things a brownie should be.  I chose not to frost them this time because I wanted a true sample of the product.  Next time I might dust with powdered sugar or frost with my Mom’s famous (okay, maybe n0t famous, but the recipe from the Hershey’s Cocoa can) chocolate frosting recipe for extra goodness.

All you need is 1 stick of butter and 2 eggs (oh, and the mix ;)).

  1. yum, those brownies look tasty. We just bought a box the other day and I will have to try them out. I made some blueberry muffins with the yellow cake mix and they turn out fantastic as well.

  2. Where did you find them?!
BTW- I have the same mixer. LOVES IT!
Also, I commented on your comment :-) on my blog.

    • I have found them at Kroger (though they didn’t have the Devil’s food cake) and Giant Eagle (they had all 4 there). :)

Off to read your comment! :)

  3. Wow! Those do look delicious!! Kim, I know they are gluten free, but are the brownies also dairy free and/or soy free? I haven’t figured that out yet!

    • Carrie,

I don’t have the box and I didn’t see the ingredients on BC’s site. I did see that they have “No butter” directions, so you can avoid adding any dairy. Sorry I can’t be of more help! I meant to put the ingredients in my blog post & obviously forgot! LOL!

  4. Hello. I just made these yesterday and absolutely love them. I was just going to put them on my health blog and forgot to take pictures. May I use your post and send the kudos back to you?

    • Christina,

That would be fine. I appreciate you asking permission first. :)

So glad that you loved them, too!! I can’t wait to make more!

  5. Those look really good. Glad you got to try them and thanks for sharing.

  6. [...] Now, that is saying something!  So, Betty Crocker, you are 3 for 3 so far.  The brownies, cookies & Devil’s Food Cake have all been hits.  Now, I have one last mix to [...]

  7. Kim,
Thanks for taking the time to post about the Betty Crocker products. I have been wanting to try them but haven’t taken the time to look for them. Now that you posted about the brownies, I will take the time to find them. You made me realize what I’ve been missing, really good brownies!
    Yum!!!

    Nancy

    • Nancy, they are SOOOOO good!! You can get them on Amazon if you can’t find them locally.
      :)

BTW, I sent you an email. :)

      • I found mine in the same aisle as the “regular” brownies at the grocery store. :0

  8. These look yummy! I so wish they would come up with a sugar-free version too. Thanks for the review.

  9. Great to see more gluten-free foods! I do have one question. I haven’t been able to find the ingredient list for this particular mix (or any of the Betty Crocker mixes). Can anyone tell me if it contains corn or any corn derivative product? Thanks in advance!

  10. Hi… I am wondering if anyone knows whether BC’s current instant mashed potato products are Gluten-Free? I have been searching the net for a while and am not yet coming up with any documentable proof that they are…
    Thanks.

    • William,

Betty Crocker’s Potato Buds are GF. I am not sure about the other BC products. However, General Mills will clearly label their products, so if you check the label in the store, you should be able to easily tell.

      I hope this helps.

  11. Your review is a bit misleading on price. The 1-2-3 Gluten Free brownies make more than twice as much as Betty Crocker — so they are no more expensive per serving. They are also made in the USA in a dedicated gluten-free facility.

    • I did not realize that at the time that I wrote this. However, when having to prepare a quick pan of brownies for my child’s school, I would be more likely to purchase the less $$ version.

I do love the 1, 2, 3, Gluten-free mix, don’t get me wrong. The brownies are amazing. I just can’t justify that cost when I am only feeding a handful of people, especially in this economy.

  12. Sounds great! I can’t wait to try! What do you think about coconut oil instead of butter??

  13. I am truly grateful to the holder of this website who has shared this enormous piece
of writing at at this time.
